Professional Experience
Thea began her career as a research engineer at the Energy & Environmental Research Center (EERC) in North Dakota. Thea’s work included technology development and research in a wide variety of fields including, but not limited to, carbon capture and sequestration, mercury control for coal-fired power plants, groundwater remediation, and deactivation and decommissioning of the Department of Energy’s nuclear weapons complex. Following her work at the EERC, Thea served as the Director of External Relations for the Yale University School of Engineering & Applied Science. Thea was a contributing writer for the Yale Engineering Magazine and website, focusing on emerging research in the areas of mechanical, environmental, chemical, and biomedical engineering, materials science, and applied physics. Thea joined Kinney & Lange in 2014, after graduating from the University of Minnesota Law School.
Thea focuses her practice on patent prosecution, including international IP application filings and prosecution, patentability matters, freedom-to-operate studies, and opinion of counsel analyses.
Thea received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Chemistry from Mayville State University and her Master of Science Degree in Environmental Science and Engineering from Oregon Graduate Institute (now part of Oregon Health & Science University). Thea received her Juris Doctor from the University of Minnesota where she served as a Managing Editor of the Minnesota Law Review. In her free time, Thea enjoys spending time with her family, playing ukulele, and paddle boarding.
